[Before Messrs Kdward Isaacs and P. Magulre, Justices.]

DItUSK. —Four persons were punished by tine or imprisonment. Valueless Cheque. —Frederick B. C. Dnvnl, alias "Dr. Duvol," was charged with uttering a false cheque for £1, on the 18th September, with intent to defraud Samuel Coombes, clothier, Queen-st. Mr Browning appeared for defendant, and explained thai, thu error arose through a mistake on the part of Mr Hardy. Thero was no felonious intent. —John White Hardy, financial agent, deposed that £100 had arrived to the credit of Duval from England. The clerk in the Bank of New South Wales said that Dr. Duval had an account at the bank until May last. -- Tho Bench accepted Air Browning's statement that there was no felonious intent ; at the same time the police had -only done their duty in the matter.--Discharged.

Aixhckd Embezzlement. —Louis Thomas Thompson appeared in answer to a chargo of embezzling the sum of £1, the pioperty of W. L. England, on the 9th June, ISBJ ; also, with taking £14, on the Oth July last, the property of Andrew Neilson, of Inglowood. — Mr Napier appeared in defence.— Sergeant White asked fur a remand in order to identification.—Mr Napior paid his client was a man of respectability, and never was in the employ of the person who it was alleged he had defrauded. In fact, he never was at the West Coast.—Adjourned until to-morrow ; bail allowed, himself in £T>o and sureties in €25.

RECANTATION. —David Mills, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of drunkenness and unseemly conduct on Sunday afternoon in tho Kyber Pass lioacl, was again brought up.—Prisoner said ho was much bettor, and had no doubt of his guilt. He would now plead guilty.—Fined '20s and exprnsc? of witnesses, tl Mi, or soven days.

Quite A< cidextai* —William Travenr-v was fined Is and costs on account of his horse found in Alborfcstreet. — Sergeant White believed it was accidental. Defendant was a careful mnn.

Convalescent.—John White Hardy, who had been suffering for f:oine time in the Hospital under delirium (remain, was charged with being drunk and disorderly on tho 10th inst.—Defendant said ho had been suffering from neuralgia, and took some spirits, which operated strongly upon his brain.—Fined 20? ; expenses, Us.

A Royal Pair.—.John and Mary King were charged with abroach of the Licensing Act by being drunk and disorderly in the Kylicr lass Road on tho 15th instant. Both pleaded guilty : verily tliey were drunk.—Constable Dews depicted the scones, which wore lamentable, Tho woman was so drunk in the hotel at Kybor Pass that sho lot her infant fall, and was utterly incapable of taking care of it. Williams himself was drunk and fighting on tho Sunday, to the disgust of persons coming out of tho several churches,—The Bench gave both prisoriurs a severe caution as to tfieir future conduct, and imposed lines of 20s each and costs.
