A correspondent sends the London " Globe " a copy of the " Fanfulla," reproducing the account given by an accomplished Roman swimmer namod Signor Ricci, of hia successful peformance on tho 26th of August, 1876, of "the same feat which cost Captain Webb hia life." Tho "Globe" says:— " Without depreciating the honour earned by Signor Ilicci, we cannot help, thinking that tho two feats must havo boon very different. The Italian swam, according to his own account, across the rapids and back again, but ho says nothing of swimming down tho river through the whirlpool, which we believe was, ami is, absolutely impossible."
