MORNINGSIDE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
The first anniversary of the Morningside Presbyterian Church was celebrated by a soiree and concert in tbe district hall last evening. Thero was a crowded, attendance. The toa-trays, which wero very tastefully arranged and plentifully supplied with good things, were presided over by tho following ladies: —Mesdamca Alexander, S. Hanna, Buchanan, Finch, Crawford, Motion, and Carey. At the after meeting the Rev. Mr Somerville-presided, while the choir of St. James's Church, under the leadership of Mr' J. G. Culpan, occupied the platform. The chairman, in his opening remarks, referred to the establishment of the Morningside Presbyterian Church, and said that their presence there was not in opposition to any sister organisation, for thoy were all acting in tho same good cause. Ono result of the gathering would be to partially clear the debt oft a handsome instrument, which had recently been purchased at a cost of £45. The following musical programme was then gono through, almost every item being loudly applauded:—Chorus, ."The Dawn of Day," choir; song, "The Tar's Farewell," Mr Armstrong ; duet, "The Flower Gatherers," Misses Mackie and McMillan ; chorus, " Smile, 0 Sun," choir; song, " Tit for Tat" and (in response to an encore) "Who's that Tapping?" Miss Culpan; song, "Scotland, 1 Love Thee," Mr Carton chorus, "Beautiful Spring," choir; song, " Land o' the Leal," Rev. Thompson ; duet, "Cinderella" (encored), the Misses Culpan and Barton; song, "Summer Showers" and (in response to nn encore) "Auntie," Miss McMillan ; chorus, "Spring's Bright Glances," choir; song, "Sitting on tho Stile Mary " and (in response to an enoove) "My Pretty Jane," Mr Joseph Hanna; chorus, "Sweet and Low," choir; duet, ".Dream of Me," the Misses Mackie and Culpan. A little daughter (4$ years old) of the Rev, Mr Thompson also played some easy pianoforte exercises, much to the surprise of the audience. The musical accompaniments were played by Miss Culpan, Miss Parker, anel Mr W. J. Rees. Votes, of thanks to the choir, to the ladies, vho provided trays, and to the presiding; chairman, were passed, which Minciuclod the evening's amusemein.t,
