The anniversary soiree in connection with the. Ponaonby Wesleynn Sunday School took; place laet ovenlDg in the (school-room, but the unfavourable weather exercised a very marked influence on the attendance, Aa excellent tea was provided, the tables being presided over by 1 the following ladlesi-Mesdaines Buchanan, j. dittos. 80u.9r.er, and Misses Blomfleld, Jack, Hutchison, Joynt. King. Nnwbold and Scott, The subsequent public meeting was presided over by Mr W. Thome. From the annual report read by the secretary — Mr Hutohison. junior —It appeared that the number of the scholars on the roll is 212, With thirteen male and 10 famale teaohers. There had been 69 new scholars reoaived during the year, and a los 3by removals of 46. the not increase being 23. There had been several changes in the superln'tendenoy of tha school during tha year. , Mr Stephensoh had to resign through his other dntles In connection with tho church occupying muoh ot bis time. His successor (Mr Hanny) had to resign through removal to Blenheim. The Rev. Mr Duwabury then undertook the chszve of the sohool till the teaohora conld get a suitable successor, which they had done In Mr. B. J. Senior or, whoso ability was manifest in the diclplino and conduct of the school. Daring the year a Band of Hope had been inaugurated In commotion with the Sunday school, under the presidency of the pastor, the Rev. H. K. Uewabmy, with Mr Boußter as conductor, and Mr jack as secretary. There wore 200 members On the roll. Thoannuil statement of accounts, which was then retiil by Mr Wilson, treasurer, showed that the receipts were £79 IBs Tid, and the expenditure) £53 2s 3d, loaylog a balance to credit of school o'£'JS'ol7a '4Jcf. The oolleotions on Sunday had amonntod to g 10 5s lOd. slnbe which a donation had been received ot two guineas, making a total of <!12 7s 103.—Addresse b were then delivered by Revs. Garter, Dewsbury, A, Reid. Blade, Spenoe, and Mr Bouster.—The following were the musiosl selections rendered durlnn tno evening,.Mr Goodiaon conducting theohblr.
