THE QUEEN'S RETURN,

LONDON, April 14.

Her Majesty tho Queen has arrived at Windsor Ca«tle from Mentoho, where Bite has been staying for the benefit of her health,

DISOHAKOE OF EUROPEAN

OFFICIALS IN EGYPT,

CAIRO, April 14,

Four Europeans who wero employed in tho Treasury have been discharged. No prut, xt has been offered for their dismissal.

Mr R. J. Feltua was examined to-day before the Royal Commission. We understand the Commissioners have allowed two of tho claims; tho third is under consideration^

The Swedish steamer Malmoehus was recently lost on her trial trip under the following extraordinary circumstances :—She was a paddle steamer, and started on her trial trip on January 12tb, from Calmar, under the commaud of Captain A. Nortin, having on board the vessel's proper master, Captain Burling, Fletcher, engineer, Capt. Donnorand others, in all twenty-five persons. She passed through Calmar sound into the .Baltic, making a good spoed. At Damuian light the vessel turned round, and was experimented with for an hour. It was noticed at last that tho vessel was beginning to settlo by tho stern, and Captaia Donaer, suspecting that something was wrong below deck, burst opon the door on the saloon deck, and going down the companion way to tho main deck, found the water in the after port of the vessel was nearly even with the main deck. It was at ,ouco seen that nothing could save the steamer, and the only boat on board was immediately launched and tea persons got Into it, M'hu sea and the vessel's way separated her from the boat, and in tho incredibly short time of two or three minutes

tko steamer sank stem first. Just at this moment the fifteen persona on board . rushed to tho forepart of tho vessel and disappeared with her into tho waves. The couso of tho disaster appears to havo been a want of vigilance before she started. Whilst the painting of the after saloons was unfinished, and the windows—l 2in number—in the underdeck saloon had probably been opened by the painters and not screwed fast again— a circumstance which no one on bourd noticed, besrusc from the outside tbe windows appeared to bo closed, and the saloons were not accessible, tho keys not being on board. During tho high son the water probably washed in through the windows, so that the vessel's stern sank more and more, until the windows all at once got under water, whereupon tho stern was suddenly depressed, causing tho water to riso on deck and como over into tho engine-room, which was otherwise protected by a wafer tight Imlkti; ;ul between it and the saloons. Ttio smalt bout containing tho survivors was overloaded, and it was with great difficulty that it was kept afloat and brought to land at Wallo.

A now stylo of boy's trousers hns been invented in America with a copper seat, sheet-Iron kuees, riveted down tlio scam?, and waterproof pockets to hold broken eggs.
