WELLINGTON, Monday. THE HALCIONE STABBING CASE.
Iv the case of the prisoner Brown, charged -with stabbiug the boatswain of the Haleione, .sentence was postponed.
Nicholas Johnson was then charged, on Tenland, With stabbing Luis Olseu. Dr. Gillon gave evidence as to the injuries re--ceived by the prosecutor. His Worship ■ordered the prisoner to bo imprisoned aud ikept to hard labour for two mouths.
A large number of men were put on work to-day ou the first section of the WellingtonPoxton railway at rates of pay varying from 5s to 7s per day ; but a great many were refused work, while many objected to worK at the rates offered.
John Welsh, while driving a cart rapidly, collided with a telegraph pole and got thrown out. He sustained severe injuries, especially about the skull, and was takon to the hospital. It is feared he has sustained concussion of the brain.
