THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE.
(To the Editor),
SIR,- Will you kindly publish the enclosed reply sent by me to a request from the Central Committee that I should act as a membur, Dr. Wallis, at his last meeting, stated, in reply to questions put to him, that "he was not in lavour of so adjusting the tariff as to favour native industry. That he would not support Sir George Grey's measure to prevent the influx of Chinese." And yet the Central Committee have resolved to give him their support.—Yours, &c, Geo. W. Heslop. August 30th, 1879.
SiE, —Iv reply to your circular of the 27th, in which you state that I was elected a member of the Auckland Central Committee, I beg to say that from my position in the Working Men's Political Association, I cannot act on the Committee ; also that in my opinion the action of your Committee in according their support to a candidate for City West (Dr Wallis) who holds views opposed to the most vital interests of the working classes, is a breach of the trust confided in them by the electors. Thanking you for the compliment, I am, &c, Geo. W. HESfcOJ?.. . .
