Bayldon and Crump Safe.

GRAHAMSTOWN, this day, 8.15 a.m.
The fo]lowing_ oflicial telegrams were received this morning by the Hon. the Native Minister: —
I regret to inform you that a surveyor named Bayldon and his party were yesterday fired upon by a party of natives believed to be the Ngatihako tribe, and one of the party is seriously wounded. I will see Bayldon this morning and collect all the information obtainable and have some of the local chiefs to consult with you on your arrival today. I am sure there is no political significance in this matter. It took place at Ohinemuri. The few facts above stated reached me at 4 a.m. GBAHAMSTOWN, this day, 8:30 a.m. On receipt of the first news from Ohine. muri last night I wrote to the officer there to put himself entirely in the Inspector's hands, and I further offered Inspector Thomson the instant services of 200 men here fully oificered and equipped. You may rely oa the Thames Volunteers.

I am glad to be able to state {hat Bayldon and Crump liave escaped safely. McWilliams, who is somewhat badly wounded, has been sent down, by steamer, and conveyed to the Thames Hospital. The small steamer for Paeroa will be waiting your arrival here, but Captain Fai child will require to put on extra steam to enable us u> catch the tide.—J. B. Thomson, Superintendent.
