Special Advertisements. c mo THE ELECTORS OF AUCKLAND ] CITY EAST. . , Gentlemen,—As my views on many of the i important questions now before the public have j never been declared, I think it right in soliciting .your suffrages at once, though briefly to give an j indication of what my opinions are on some of , these questions, leaving a more complete ex- I position to the time when I hope to have tho ■ pleasure of meeting you face to face. ; Should you do mo tho honour of selecting mo as your Representative, I shall endeavour to secure a more equitable distribution of Loans for Immigration and Public Works, and for Auckland some compensation for past injustice also, a division of grants for school buildings in proportion to the necessities of educational districts rather than on the basis of population. I consider that tho Native Department should either be abolished, or much reduced. That tho Land Purchase Department should bo entirely abolished after completing some of the most important purchases now in progress, after which tho Government should purchase no land for revenue purposes. That every facility should bo afforded to Natives, by advancing the necessary funds and otherwise, to havo their land surveyed and their titles individualised. Thatnmplo reserves should bo made for tho Natives, aud that tho remainder ho sold or leased by auction through iho Wasto Lands Board of tho District, at tho request of tho Native owners, and offered at such upset price as may in each caso bo fixed by them. That an «r! valorem duty on every first disposal of such lands bo paid by the purchaser or lesseo, in consideration of value given to such lands by immigration audpablio works. I am opposed to the proposal to abolish multiple voting at Local Elections, and to the Maor dual vote. I approve of tho present system of secular education; of imposing a tax upon uncultivated land held fur Epeculativo purposes ; of rating Government unoccupied landfor local works; of promoting tho settlement of tho country by selling Government lands on the system of deferred payments and occupation ; of manhood suffrage, with a residential qualification; of sending members of the llouso to their constituencies, when they join a Ministry; of Triennial Parliaments; of a member addressing his constituency during the recess, and resigning his seat when he finds that ho has ceased to represent them. I approvo of the Auckland members of the House of Representatives agreeing to sink all minor differences consulting together upon questions affecting the interests of tho North, and (unless in cases in which principlo is involved) unitedly taking Buch action as tho majority may decide upon. " The Reformation of Luther revolutionised many fixed and radical tenots. Tho ma»torspirits of many an age subverted established theories, and the uprising tide turnedadrift new forms of government, heterodox ideas, social innovations, strange physical and social and religious formulas. Galileo and Corpenicus subverted old dogmas, and startled the world by their daring assumptions. Enough! Udolpho Wolfe's aeniedam Aromatic Schnapps swept away the old inoperative proscriptions, and is now the universally recognised panacea for many of the " ills flesh is heir to."
