HORSE ACCIDENT.

A horse belonging to Dr Payne was fatally injured at Kerikeri yesterday. A spring cart came into collision with the anianimal, the shaft entering its side, and causiug a terrible wound. The animal died in a few minutes afterwards.

SUDDEN DEATH,

Mr Henry Graham, surveyor, died after a few hours illness. His sudden death cast a gloom over the community. On the Premier arriving at Akaroa on Wednesday the Town Council presented an addres3. Subsequently the Premier addressed, an open-air meeting, and a resolution expressing confidence in him was moved by Mr Waeckerle, and seconded by the Rev Mr Aylemer. Mr Montgomery, M.H.R. for the district, supported the resolution, and said a cry had been raised that Sir George Grey was in favour of class legislation, buthe (Mr Montgomery) had seen nothing tending in that direction. Should he do so, the Government whom he now supported would find no more uncompromising opponent than himself. The fact, was New Zealand politicians were dividing into two great parties, Conservatives and Liberals. The former desired the laws maintained which were eminently satisfactory to a few, but the Liberal party, led by Sir George Grey, wished to see justice done to the whole people of New Zealand. The resolution was passed unanimously.

THE -DINNER.

The Premier was afterwards entertained at a dinner, and attended a Presbyterian soiree, making a speech at each. Sir George and party left in the Hiuemoa for Wellington at 11.30 p.m.

SALE OF A RUN

GREYMOUTH, Thursday.

A remarkable accident occurred at the races. A mounted constable had dismounted from his horse, when tliG latter, in shaking himself, made a pistol in the holster explode, the ball of which struck a boy, sixty yards away, in the arm, passed through another boy's clothes, without injuring him, and finally lodged in a third boy's coat pocket. Tiie occurrence was purely accidental.

Mr Barton's meeting terminated at a late hour last night, -with a vote of thauks to the chairman. A very large portion of the speech was devoted to the administration of justice in the Supreme Court and R..M. Court.

A tremendous squall from the southwest struck the upper part of the town at seven o'clock last night, and completely demolished Stewart's brewery, besides other damage.
