SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
A SERIOUS accident occured yesterday to a man. named John Pover, who lias been for sometime in the employ of MrDornwell, butcher, of Queen-street. The accident happened about half-past live o'clock in the evening, rover was riding along Princesstreet in the direction of Government House when lie observed a, baker's horse and cart, driven by two boys, who were on the wrong side of the way. He pulled his horse on one side f r the purpose of clearing the cart, when the shaft came in sharp contact with his leg, and passed through the calf, or fleshy part. The poor fellow was immediately thrown to the ground, and at the same moment the horse fell. Several persons at once went to the assistance of the injured man, and Dr Kendcrdine was sent for. The doctor, who was promptly in attendance, bound up the wound, and recommended that Pover should be sent to the hospital, Mr Dornwell procured a cab, and had him conveyed thither, where he received attention from Dr Norton, the present house-surgeon, who, having examined the wound, feared that amputation was inevitable.
