RUSSELL.

(From our own Correspondent.) This day. Arrivals—Golden Isle and Minnie Hare, from Auckland. Sailed —Favourite. An American Captain Sentenced. Captain Marvin, of the American whaleship Coral, was to-day tried and sentenced to iorty-eight hours in gaol, with £4 costs, for committing a violent assault on one of his seamen by kicking him about the head and body whilst on Russell beach. The police deßerve great credit for the prompt manner in which they took the case up, and our worthy Eesident Magistrate (Mr Williams) delivered a well worded sentence, in which he called the captain's attention to his being u n an English port, where men are not llowed to be treated as brutes.
