A Serious Affray.—A Man Speared.
Intelligence has reached Us of a melancholy affair which occurred on Saturday last at Gum Town, North Oruawharo. The facts are . Two gum-diggers, named Euston and Pyne, had a quarrel about some matter, which has not been explained, when the former struck the latter with a spade which he carried. Pyne, the man who was struck, immediately got into a rage and thrust his gum-spear into the borly of Euston. The spear, a four-cornered one with a sharp point, entered Euston's side above the hip and went thtoneh bis body, causing intense suffering. On Wednesday last the unfortunate man was living, but there appeared but little hope of his recovery. Dr. Marks, the local surgeon, was sent for, but was away at Otamatca, and did not return until Tuesday. Constable Niger apprehended Pyne. The depositions of Euston have been taken before a Justice of the Peace, and the prisoner has been remanded by the justices.
