The object of forming a Masonic Hall Company is to furnish a want that has been long felt in Auckland —namely, the erection of a suitable building in which to conduct Masonry in a proper and decorous manner apart from hotels. It is therefore intended to erect a substantial brick building, in which members of Lodges can meet apart from those who are not members of the craft. For the benefit of members of the craft who are non-residents in Auckland, it is intended to establish a Masonic Club, with a view to providing a place in which members of the craft can spend sociable pastime, in connection with which a library and reading-room will be provided, and suitable accommodation for those wishing to board on the premises in preference to seeking hotel accommodation. It is proposed to build the Hall on the first floor, large and commodious, in order to make it useful either for a concert room or lecture hall, and have the Lodge-room apart from the public-hall. With the view. of attaining the proposed object the Provisional Committee have purchased a suitable site, having frontages to Queen and Grey-streets, at a cost of £1,200, the estimated cost of a suitable building being about £4,000. The deposit on the purchase of the abovementioned site has been paid by the various Lodges in Auckland, who have subscribed the requisite amount. To enable the Company to carry out the above proposals, it is intended in the first instance to allot the whole of the shares, and caU up one-half of the capital only in the following manner:—A deposit of 2s 6d per share on application, and 2s 6d on allotment, the allotment of such shares to close on the 20th of March, 1875, the remaining 15s to be paid up in three calls of 5s per share, such calls to be made at intervals of three months, payable as follows :—ss per share on the 20th of June, 5s per share on the 20th September, and the final call of 5s on the 20th December. It is proposed to offer a premium for the best design for a building suitable for the requirements of the Company, which will be open to the inspection of shareholders when completed. As soon as a sufficient number of shares have been applied for, a general meeting of the shareholders will be called for the purpose of electing a Directory and Management. Brethren are invited to render every assistance in then- power towards forwarding the objects of the Company, as it is calculated to be a good investment for capital, from the sound financial basis on which it is proposed to start the Company—namely, to have no debt either on land or building. Applications for shares . will in the meantime be ' made, and deposits thereon paid to the treasurer, Wm. Lodder, Esq. GEORGE N. BRASSEY Interim Secretary to the Provisional Board Directors.
