We are glad to learn that the youth and vigour of the North Shore are about turning themselves to the study and practice of athletic sports. To-night, at half-past, seven, a meeting' is cdnvened to the Flagstaff Hotel, for the formation of a Football Club, and we understand that it is the intention of the promoters to challenge the athletes of Auckland, and all other places, to come over from time to time and try conclusions with muscles nurtured amid the bracing breezes of the North Shore. We are requested to correct an error which appeared in last night's issue, namely, that the members of the Auckland Cavalry troop did not make their appearance for their annual inspection. We have since learned they met in the domain, and were addressed both by Colonel Harington and Major Gordon, and were instructed by Sergt. Wainhouse. One of the little pleasantries of the gallery "gods" at the Dublin Opera House, con-; sists in throwing on the stage a bouquet to which a piece of thread is attached. When the prima donna goes to pick up the nosegay, it is suddenly drawn up again amid the roars of the deities.
