This day. Mr Beynolds has telegraphed to the Chamber of Commerce regarding the Suez mail service. He says that Parliament is decidedly opposed to paying a heavy subsidy for the Melbourne service, and the Government is endeavouring to arrangejit at a. moderate
cost. But if the offer made by the Government were not accepted, the negotiations would fall through and mails be forwarded as opportunity offers. The Otago Daily Times, alluding to the subject, says'the true remedy is to Work cordially with New South Wales for the re-establishment of a new and reliable San Erancisco service.
