THE STIPEND GUARANTEE.
Tβ the Editor. Sir, —I was very pleased to learn from the Churchwardens, in your issue o£ the Iβ th inptapt, that the guarantee had not been increased; &ad, on enquiring since, it if further gratifying to hear that increase was not even proposed, This is as it Bhould be, seeing that during the past year the Lucas' Estate was encroached upon to the extent of nearly £70 in aid of current expenditure. This was en | tirely wrong, as I said at the Easter | meeting; and it was probably due to my remonstrance that someone (I forget whom) hoaxed me with the tale that, at the close of the meeting, the vestry bad increased the etipend hy £50. 1 shall be writing to "The Lyttelton Times" again in a day or r,wo, and will take the opportunity of correcting my mistake in its columns I am, etc
