NEW YORK, May 7
Mr Chamberlain made a statement to the American press that the Germans are using every endeavour to create trouble in India. The population of India is 320,000,000, but there are few malcontents. The complete failure of fantastic con spiracy in February of 1915 gave evidence of the stability of the British rule. The Viceroy reports the situation could hardly be more favourable. Twenty-one regiments of Indian cavalry anc eighty-six battalions of infantry are fighting abroad.
