A FOURTH CONTINGENT,

PARIS, May 3

A fourth contingent of Russians has arrived at Marseilles and were accorded a great reception by the people.

• Mr J. Collett, head of the Can- ■ terbury Tourist Department at : Christchurch visited Akaroa ' yesterday in connection with the resort. He met the Mayor and a number of Councillors and visited most of the beauty spots round the harbour by launch. He , also visited the hotels and boarding houses and expressed himself as extremely pleased with the manner in which they were conducted. Mr Collett said Akaroa undoubtedly had many claims but he thought a good deal more ; could be done to attract tourists. [ He considered that the residents ■ should bestir themselves and get ; a golf links at once as a good \ links would attract visitors here. >In Hanmer, Queenstown and • elsewhere new links had been 1 secured and it had made a mark--led difference in the number of • tourists visiting those resorts. The sporting tourist should be 1 catered for as he would return \ time and time again if he could get his sport as well as his holi- " day.

Mr Collett leaves again for Christchurch this morning.
