SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP

MEETING.

The South Island Rifle Championship Meeting was fired at Redcliffa range on Saturday, Monday and yesterday, a number of Peninsula riflenapn and cadets taking part In commemoration of Angao Day all competitors adjourned at 11 am, when a service was conducted on the range by Chaplain Captain Hayward (Akaroa), who is a competitor at the meeting The pulpit was decorated by a Union Jack lent by Lieutenant (Jolonel Oreaewell, chief range officer.

The following were successful com petitors from the Ploinsula on Satur d y and Monday :—

In match No 1, grouping 100 yds 5 shots and application 200 yds, 7 pdo'p, 20~ee per phot, Capfa'n Chap lain Elayward scored 20 at lOOvds, 80 at 200yda, total 50, and won IQ*.

In the Riffe Clubs' competition in the same match P A Westenra scored 25 at 100 yds and 81 at 200 yds, a tofcnl of 56, and won 10s.

In the Cadets competition irj the s-ime match H R Hayward (69th Co ) won "5?, and A C Grotty (69th Co ) received 5? In match No 2, pnnp shooting, 200 yds head and shoulder target*, 7 8bot«, 5 sec exposure, bntt of rifle on ground and finger behind guard until appearance of target, Chaplain Cap tnin J VV Hayward won the possible of seven bits and received 25a Cadet W 0 Crotty (69 h Co ) won Is 6d for four bits.

Id match No 8, application 500 yds first class figure targpt, 7 rounds, 15 exposure, P A Westenra, Akaroa Rifle Club, won 53.

In the flime match cadets. H B Hnyward 26 and W J M Hayward 25, won 5s each,

In the superiority, of fire match, teams of six, sixteen targets, five rounda per man, allowance one minute the Akaroa Cadets (69 Co) scored 29 and won £1.

On Easter Monday, in the Onalow Memorial match, 7 sbots at 300, 500 figure targets, and 600 yds bulla eye target Chaplain Captain Hayward scored 93 and won 203, while P A Westenra, Akaroa Rifle Club, won lO*.

In tbe Maidlow MemDrial matob, 10 sbots at 500 yds, figure targets. A Wbitley, Akaroa Eifle Club, scored 49 3rd place, and won £2.
