RIFLE SHOOTING.

AKAROA AND WAINUI DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.

The opening Club shoot of the Peninsula Rifle Clubs took place on the Akaroa range on Tuesday, when the Akaroa and Wamui Clubs fired a match. The weather was fine and the light excellent and a very enjoyable match was fired. For a first shoot the scores were good, the Akaroa Club putting up a remarkably good score, each of the team getting above the 30 mark at the 200 yards, while five 34's were registered, A. Whitley putting on the fine score of 99 at the three ranges. The Wainui members put on a good score also though they are out of form and future matches between the two clubs will be most interesting. The Akaroa Club won the match by 68, the totals being:—Akaroa 731, Wainui 663." The Akaroa Club provided lunch for the visitors, and the club wish especially to thank.Miss J. Bruce for providing afternoon tea which was generally appreciated. It is to be hoped that this 'match will be the forerunner of 'a good rifle shooting season on I Peninsula this winter. During the last year or so interest has somewhat fallen off in rifle shooting, and it would be a splendid thing if the splendid shooting that used to be carried out by Peninsula riflemen could be revived to its old form. Rifle shooting is a sport which should appeal to everyone, young and old in these days. Following are the scores of the match: — AKAROA DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.

A return .match will be fired between the two clubs in the near future.
