OKAIN'S FACTORY WHEY CREAM.

To the Editor,

Sir, —In your issue of 21st, a local states that it has been rumoured that the Akaroa Butter Factory has been receiving whey-cream from Okains Bay Factory and making it up into butter without branding accordingly. I wish to endorse the Akaroa manager's statement that this is absolutely incorrect. A few weeks ago we had about £15 worth of cream on hand, which owing to trouble with our freezer we could not churn. Faced with a serious loss, our chairman rang.up Mr Judd and stated the position. The latter very generously agreed to see us over the difficulty; and the cream, together with a supply of our boxes and butter wrappers, both branded as required, was sent to Akaroa, and there churned and made up on our account. No further lot was sent.

A letter of appreciation has been sent to the Akaroa Butter Factory Co., and their manager, thanking them for their very neighbourly action. It is a great pity if their kindness is misconstrued by some local "Sherlock Holmes." I am, dear Sir, respectfully yours,

W. THOMAS, Secretary to Okain's Bay Dairy Co.
