■* Toe monthly meeting of the Mount Herbert County Council waa held on Monday, February 7th, in the Council Chamber, Purau. Present—Messrs 0 Bradley (chairman), A R Fleming, jj M Wilson, W H Firmston, L , Hunter, R Allan and J A Gollety. ; Mr Allan moved tbe motion standing io' bis name, to rescind the motion p'aaeod on September 4th with reference to forming a county road throughout 1 that county. the North Canterbury Reoruitidg Board, and was left in tbe bands of tbe obairman and clerk to deal with. From tbe Red 0r033 Fund Committee, -regarding donation. It was resolved to double the amount to the local branob. From the Canterbury Patriotic Fund Committee, requesting tbe Council to report without delay any case needing assistance. The olerk was appointed to look after the district. From Mr F R H Gardiner, Purau, asking permission to pat a telephone wire across tbe road at Purau. Granted. Mr Harold Gardiner made a similar application. Granted.
From tbe Raglan County Council, regarding tbe employment of single men on Oounoil work. Tbe clerk was instructed to reply that this Council bad adopted tbe proposal several months ago. The balance sheet for the half year ending September 30th was received and certified oorreor.
Tbe clerk reported tbat the Coun oil's quota to the Patriotic Fund was £980, and that the fund stood at present at £1115 5s 4d, with an additional £40 in sight.
Mr L M Wilson congratulated tbe clerk upon the success of his labour, and moved a vote of tbanks to him for his gratuitous work in collecting tbe funds. The clerk was instructed to advertise tbat all rates must be paid by Feb ruary 24th, after tbat date 10 per cent will be addsd. Tbe financial statement showed a oredit balance at thg bank amounting to £236 4s Id.
