COMMITTEE MEETING

A meeting of the committee was held in the Library on Wednesday evening. Present — Messrs W. H. Henning (chairman), A. H. Wesfcenra, G. W. Thomas, A J Turner, Rev A H Julius and Miss Jacobpon

Apologies were received from Mr J D Bruce on account of ill health and from Rev J W Hay ward and Mr J S Dodds on account of previous en gagements

A circular form tbe Director of Education- to tbe effect that no sub pidies to public libraries would be paid tbh year was received.

A letter from tbe Managing Director of the "Triad" was also received

Accounts amounting to £20 12s 0d j were passed for payment, leaving a a credit balance of £1 18s 8d after all accounts w<n-e paid. It was decided that the annual meeting of subscribers be held on Wednesday, February 16tb, at 7.30 p m Mr Thomas said that the question of finanoe would have td be gone into as the usual subsidy amounting to £11 would not be forthcoming this year. It was decided to leave this matter over for disoussion at the annual

meeting. "^ Mr Thomas said that some months ago be took charge of the Library as the Librarian was away on account of ill health and one of tbe people in the Library had tried to take one of tbe daily papers out of the building, and be bad objeuted. He asked whether the committee considered he had been justified in the stand he had taken.

Mr Turner said he considered no person had any right to take a paper out at all.

The chairman moved the action ol Mr Thomas, acting librarian, in refus ing to allow a paper to be taken oul be approved. Seconded by Mr Westenra and car ried.

In answer to the chairman the librarian said the alteration of the hours on Saturday afternoon from 3 to 4 back to 2 to 3 p.m. had meant the joining of only two half yearly subscribers.

Mr Thomas gave notice of motion to rescind tbe motion fixing the open ing of the Library on Saturday from 2 to 3 p'm. The chairman moved that the sub scriber retaining a book valued at 3/6 be informed he must return same or pay 8/6. Seconded by Mr Thomas and carried. • The chairman moved that Mr Westenra and the mover look into the matter of the Librarian's report; as to damage to a book, Seconded by Mr Thomas and carried The meeting terminated with the usual vote of thanks to the chair.
