PATRIOTIC CONCEPT AT LITTLE RIVER.

FLAG BRINGS £1457 13s 6d.

A Grand Patriotic Concert; was held at the Town Hall in Little River on Saturday last on behalf of Mt Herbert aod Wairewa Counties Branch of the Peninsula War Funds Appeal. All proceeds of the concert were devoted towards furthering the interests of tbe No 2 Queen, Miss Myrtle Birdling in the Peninsula Queen Contest. A party from Christchurch consisting of Messrs Smith, Ingle, Hannah, Cox and Misses Anderson and Dunn (Aaoompanista) contributed many in teresting and amusing items. The constant encores and hearty applause plainly indicated that their efforts were greatly appreciated. Members of the Little River Girl's Friendly Society, dressed in Swiss costumes, old sweets, buttonholes and badges and were successful in raising £4 10s by tbis means alone. Mr W. H Montgomery, in a patriotio speech, briefly outlined the objects of the Appeal and mentioned that during the interval the Union Jack would be sold by auction by Mr Leicester Matson, who, said the speaker, though he might usually get the value of most things he sold, could never hope to obtain anything like the value of the Union Jack (applause). The opening solo was played by Mrs W H Montgomery, who selected the " Molto Andante" from a Senato, by Greig.
