AKAROA AND THE BAYS
The Mayor, Mr Q. Armstrong, has bonded to us the above statement snowing that £2282 17s 4d has been colleofced in and about Akaroa. All this money has passed absolutely through the Akaroa Borough, though some of it naturally has been sub scribed by people in the surrounding districts. It is a record of which the district should be proud. In banding us this statement for publication, tbe Mayor pointed out to us that this did not by any means represent the total collected in tbe watershed of tbe harbour. Every bay has its Red Cross sooiety and Robinson's Bay alone raised over £50 at its fete in September. In Duvauohplle also, amounts are being subscribed continually _nd it is tbe same with every other bay. These amounts do not go through Mr Armstrong's fund, so that £2600 is a low estimate of tbe amount subscribed to the various funds by Akaroa and the watershed of tbe harbour. The following are tbe amounts raised in Akaroa and handed to Mr G. Armstrong ,— £ s d Deo. 7th, 1914, Ambulanoe Sooiety, Mrs M. Papps .. 10 0 0 Deo.
