Calcutta, July 21 Serious floods in Assam are doing considerable damage to tbe tea plan, tations, particularly at Gachar and SUibar.
Akahoa Citizens Defence Corps.—The Akaroa Citizens Defence Corps, under toon-oommander A. Whitley, drilled last evening with rifles for the first time. The rifles were provided by some members of the corps, and the old Boer rifles from the Council Ch&mbere were requisitioned by permission of His Worship the Mayor. Tbe rifles will make tbe future work more at tractive than in the past.
