FIRE ON AUCKLAND STEAMER.
ATTEMPT TO BTAKT BLAZE.
Auckland, July 15.
A fire was discovered at 11.80 a.m. this morning in the forebold of tbe steamer Caloegrove, loaded with caee oil from Philadelphia. The hold was half full of benzoline and bad not been worked this morning, but half an hour before some of tbe orew had been working below and the batch was left open to ventilation, a little smoke was seen coming out, and two leads of ships' hose was taken down into the hold and tbe fire brigade called out The fire was found among a quantity of paper, 'and tow between tbe outer row of cases and the ship's side, and bad evidently been placed there witb tbe intent to start a blaze.
