Iα answer to enquiries. Me Herriofc, of German Bay, received (be follow ing reply from Me J. C. Tikao, of Lyttelton :—" The original name of German Bay is "Otakamatua," its meaning "A main body of an army on a battlefield." Of course there are othec meanings to the wori, suoh as the head of a family. It is rather a hard name to pronounce, being so long, but it ia the old Maori name.
