BELGIAN SWAN DRIVE.

SOO SWANS SECURED

The result of the Lake Elletmere bwsd drive is far more satisfactory than at first appeared, and instead of a bag of 100 swans theie were 500 secured, which is eminently satisfactory in view of the fog that veiled the lake last Saturday. Moat of the bag woe secured by the Leeston guns and the boats on tho lake. The Penineula and Christ, church guns seem to have had a poor time ne the swans would not diive as was expected, and they waited on the edge of the lake filling in their time by holding clay pigeon matches, throwing up stones for pigeons. It ig quite probable that had the lake been cleared of foR the results would have been quite up to the Drive Committee's anticipations, viz., a bag of 1000 ewanß. However, it will be hard to drive the swans effectively, as they will fly behind the line of launches, and the lake would have to be covered with boats to carry out the drive bo that the ewans were forced on to (he guns awaiting on the shores.
