The monthly meeting of the Mount Her bert County Council was held on Monday al Purau. Present—Messrs 0. Bradley (chair man). A, R. Fleming, G. Steele, L.'M. Wilson, I. Hunter, pnd J. A- Gellety.
Correspondence wrs received from Hospii tal and Charitable Aid Board stating that the levy for the ensuing year amounted to £207 8s 4d.
It was resolved to remit the sum iv quarterly instalments From Public Works Department regarding loans.
Keoeived. From Belgium Belief Fund Committee ro , garding monthly quota—To be paid. The onairman offered to take and keep two or three disabled men returning from the front. From Lyttelton branch Bod Cross Society regarding funds—lt was resolved to support the looal branch. From Mr Ren Gebbie complaining of produce and other materiel being placed on the road side to the danger of the travelling public—The clerk was instructed to inform tbe road men to exercise more vigilance in the future and keep the roade dear. Tbe employees of the Council appled for an increase of pay, which was refused- It wae decided to urge the men to put in more time on the roads particularly in wet weather. The Council having given the new grader a fair trial, agreed to pnrohase it. The Clerk WB3 instructed to obtain tne usual quantity of poisoned wheat for distribution , The dog oollars having arrived, the clerft was instructed to proceed with registration without delay. A vacanoy having occured in the Port Victoria Biding, the clerk was instructed to take tbe neceseery steps to fill the seati Tba financial statement showed a credit balance of £562 7s 2d
