LONDON, May 16. In Belgium the enemy counter-attacked threa times at Pteensttante. The third at tack was partioulirly violent. All were repulsed with heavy losses,
To the north of La Basse tbe British oar ried several German trenches.
The recent Frenoh air raid on Strassjburg set fire to one , of the largest tanneries in PfOrmany engaged in army works. The damage done amounted to £200 COO sterling Official—We -infl ctad a reverse on the enemy northward o£ Ypres, and carried several trenches before Letras. We secured possession of part of Steenstraate westward oc tbe Canal, and also a bridge over the Canal,* We captured three machine guns und took five prisoners.
We progressed northward o£ Arras. Our attack outflanked the sugar refinery at Souchez on the north and approached it on the west.
We repulsed a counter attack on the southern slopes of Lorette.
We continued the conquest of Neuvelle St Vaast, and carried eeveral groups of houses. i
