FATHER STEHEN BONETTO.
BELGIAN FRUIT DAY. TO THE EDITOR. Sin,—Srme little time ago a number of orahardists aod apiarists throughout the Dominion generally, expressed, their readu ness to make gifts of fruit and honey for the Expeditionary Force at the Front. This offer could not be taken advantage of on booount of suitable cool storage not being obtainable on the boat. Some probably still wieh to assist, and recognise that the BeU g'mn Fund has very strong olaims on our sympathies. It has been suggested to the orchards, gardens and apiaries division that it ebould organise a large fruit and honey diEplay for the whole of Canterbury, pro , vidins sufficient gifts are forthcoming. I would, therefore, if the suggestion commends itself to you, ask you to forward us partioulare at onca of what you are prepared to donate in fruit and honey. It is proposed to display tbe fruit and honey in suitable pre, raises for two days in the. heart of Christchurch, on the 13th and 14th of this month if possible; therefore all fruit and honey should reach tho Department in Ohristohuron not later than 11th May, It is proposed that each case should bear tbe name of the grower and of the variety. This proposal offers an opportunity for a magnificent advertisement for the producer, and at the came time it will help the destitute Belgians. Everything in connection with the display will be given free. The work of dressing the window, unpacking and selling of the produots will be undertaken by the officers of the orchards, garden and apiaries division, Placards will be permanently displayed stating that all the fruit and honey has been given free,—l am, etc., W. J. COUBTIEB.
