"It will be withia your knowledge that her Excellency Lidy Liver pool has placed herself in com munioation with the Mayoress of Ohristcbnroh, Mrs Holland, urg ing the necessity of providing the troops now on service at the front with socks. Mr T. Lewitfc, of Akaroi, very kindly gave 2lbs of wool towards this fund, and several Akaroa ladies have in hand the making of the six pair of soxs, which this wool represents Our readers may not remember thai Lady Liverpool has made special arrangements to eend the-o socka to our forces. If they want to do =o, peopcan send the cocks to certnin mp We believe tha-t it in astoniffhi .j wh>t a number of the men have no f'iei'l--
to knit them socks, and these gift s are appreciated very keenly Ther B is a "good deal of satisfaction in send ing the socks away through this me dium, as it is certain they reach their dastination. Private parcels seem to go astray in many oases.
