The Defence Department, for breaches of the Defence Act, tooki action against the following for failing to attend parades:—L. J. Grant, S. G. Harris, W u L. Murphy and J. M. Brownlee. Each was fined 10a and costs. C. G. Cossar on a similar charge bad his case adjourned to May stb, as he iB a cadet in the Post Office and said he could not get leave to attend. TRUANT CA.SE The truant officer for the North Canterbury Education Department charged B. Paurini with failing to send three children to school. Defendant was fined 5s and costs on each charge.
