SEVERE EARTHQUAKE IN ITALY.
THOUSANDS PERISH. London, Jan.l 3 An earthquake, lasting twenty sec ondp, occurred in Italy. It is reported that the town of Anazzeno was de.sfcroyed, and thousands perished. Much damage was done elsewhere. The belfry of the church afc St. Andrea del Frate waß badly shaken by the earthquake, and is in danger of falling. A statue of St. Paul fell from San Giovanni in Luterano. Tbe inhabitants of Monte Rotondo fled in panic Two storeys of the towor of tbe Town Hall fell damaging the lower portion. Two persons were killed and many injured Several houses collapsed at Beroli, and there were a number of fatalities.
