NEW YEAR'S DAY AT PIGEON BAY.
(Contributed) ii . „ .While all the fun wa* going on in HI other placea od New "Year's Day, Hft , Pigeon Bay was having a "day out" also. Tbe fun started about 11am., P ftnd it was good to see the folk turning r up in real picnic style- All sorts and con> m ditioDS of horses and vehicles arrived loaded with peopia with their baskets and tins, with all due thought for the :|| inner inaa. The sports ground was |!i|a Mr B. Hay'a email paddock near tbe beach and main road. The same **- place has been used for close on 40 years for the gathering. Only a few events were got off before luncb, and it was a treat io see such a lot of homely people all with their baskets in ii riDg and the "billys" being boiled on one fire. I estimated tbe crowd at 240, ail counted. In con vereation with an old identity, I learned that thirty live years ago there used to be horse events, bnrdle race?, flat rscea and all sorts, but dow tbe .'da Gaming Act has removed that privi tja legs from the picnic clubs.. Tbe ■[jit:/ sports were entirely local, and almost ■js». : every event was well filled, clearly |§ showing that runners will come out ||||:.:,, when they have only friends to beat. ißi The Belgium Fund was not forgotten, and & <\m\% match in charge cf Mr y ? j| J, .Pettigrew, jr , realised £1 10s t A §|§fd loliie guessing competition brought in Mp*' £2 !-39 9d, and the bran tub £2.
