j His Excellency the Governor, as patron of the Poor of Great Britain, Ireland and Belgium Relief Fund re ports* that he has to-day transmitted by cable to the High Commissioner the sum of £20,000 as first cash contributions from ,tbe New Zealand Fund. Of the amount forwarded Christchurch, Timaru, Ashburton and the other Canterbury districts have provided £15,000, and £5000 has been donated from the Wellington, Wairarapa and other Wellington districts.
