The Hon. T. Mclienzie formulated a scheme to ?ecure the Imperial Gov urnraent's financial assistance for the Dominion durirjg the war. Twice h arranged a deputation to the Chancel lor. Mr Lloyd George, in. which South Af.ica and < anada joined, but Australia aid not participate.
After discussion with Mr, Lloyd George and tbe Governor of the Bank of England, the Chancellor agreed to meet the wishes of the deputation Government agreed to guarantee the Bank of England for money required by Canada, South Africa and New Zealand, the amount to be included in tbe next Imperial War Loan scheme secures. money at a rate not exceeding i-} per cent. South Africa received seven million?. It is understood that New I Zealand gets two millions and Canada j also receives assistance, >'
