Messbs H. Matson & Co. report: — At the Addington metropolitan market on Wednesday there was an average attendance, all classes as usual being represented. Thu yarding of fat sheep differed little from that of tho previous w ek, whilst that ol store sheep was again ot limited dimension*. Pat cattle entries were not laigo, and tbe market showed a sharp advance in valufS. The yarding of fat oattle was not ay ry large one, tbe entry being limited to 245 bead, compt>red with 273 at the previous sale. Beef realised 32s to 403, compared with 29j to 35- at the sale held on August 26. the best class of beef showinj a greater advance than seoondary quality. Quotations are: — Steers. £8 7s 6d to £10 53. . Extra good steers to £20 12s 6d Heifers, £.6 5s to £8 5s Extra good heifer 3to £12 17s 6d. Cows, £5 15s to £8 10s. Extra good oows to £12 2s 6d. Fat calves were penned in about the usual numbers, the entry being a medium one. The demand was onchangtd, prices ranging from 8s to £2 10s. The yarding o( store oattle was not a large one, and consisted largely of old cows. Quotations are , — Fifteen to eighteen month sorts £2 to £3 2s 6d. Two and a half year heifers £4 Three to four year steers £6 15s to £8 10s Three year heifers £5 Is Cows £1 7b 6d *o £4 5s , The entry of dairy oows was a mixed ono prices ranging from £2 15s to £14.. The yarding of fat ehepp was only slightly larger tban the previous week, eight and a half races being filled. The range of prices was: — Extra prime wethers to 56s Prime wethers 22s tj 28s Other wethers 17b Id to 21s Gd Merino wethers 16s to 24s 3d Extra prime ewes to .28a Prime ewes l£h 64 to 25s 4d Other ewes 13a£d to 19* . Merino ewes 14s to 15s 9d Hoggets 16s 9d to 20s 3d Extra prime hoggets to 29s The sump in score pheep which took place with the outbreak of the European wnr has apparently passed, and now each succeeding week shows increased firmness in the market.
Quotations: — Good sound mouth half-bred ewes, 21s 4d. Four, six and eight-tooth ewes (inferior and in low condition), 10s 9d (passed). Meiioa ewes (aged), 6a. Good hrgoetf, 14b to 153. Medium hoggets, 12s 6d to 13s. Small and inferior ewes, 8s 3d to 9s 6d. Cull ewes, 6s Id, Forward four-tooth wethers, 19s. Two, four ard six-tooth wethers, 18s.
Two-tooth wethers (small), 14s Bd. Fat pigs came forward in medium numbers and competition for all classes\ was again keep, values being on a par with those ruling a week earlier. Quotations are:—
Choppe-s, 60s to 155s
Heavy baconerß, 70s lo 76f. Other bacon ers, 58s to 655. Price per lb, s|d. Heavy porkerp, 45s to 575, Other porkers, 40s to 443. Price per lb, 6Jd. Tbe yarding ot store pigs was a large one, altogether too many for requirements. Quotations are.— . Large stores, 38a tc 425. Medium stores, 25s to 375, (Small stores, 18s to 245.1 Weaners, 12s 6d to 17s.
