AKAROA PATRIOTIC FUND

EQUIPPING EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. A meeting of the Aluroa Patriotic Fund Committee was held in the Akrt'oa Borough Council Chambers on Saturday evening, His Worship the Mayor presiding over a very small attendance.

The chairman moved the notice of motion staoding in his name—That the H.M.S. New Zealand surplus entertainment fund be voted to the War Fund. He said at tbe meeting at Duvauchelle those present were unanimous in voting this money to tbe Expeditionary Force Fund The motion wa3 seconded by Mr J b. Bruee, and carried.

Mr G. W. Tbomas (hon. treasurer) reported that £268 5s had been paid in by him, and £82 4s outstanding.

Mr J. D. Bruce (Akaroa County Chairman) reported that £808 15* had been paid in by the County, and Okain's bad paid £136 direct to tbe Government, making a total of £787 4s paid into the fund by the Akuroa County and Borough. The £40 of H.M.S. New Zealand Fund would be additional. The £827 did not include tbe many horses given .and gifts in kind. He thought with the Little River and Kaituna donations tbe Peninsula had subscribed very handsomely.

The chairman said the Lady Liver pool Fund was also additional.

Tbe chairman said be had been approached by the Bey. A. H. Julius and others regarding the starting of a fund to insure members of tbe New Zealand Expeditionary Force against disablement. The other fund was now practically closed, and he thought if those willing to give would pay a few shillings ii week towards the new fund it would be,an excellent thing.

The chairman moved the Peninsula contribution now in hand be paid into tbe public account on Monday. Seconded by Mr W. Jacobson, and corried,

The chairman moved a patriotic fund'be starteS* for insuring the men of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Anyone wishing to give a few shillings a week could do so.

The motion wna seconded by Mr J. D. Bruce, and carried. '
