FIRE AT WHAKAPUAKA.
COMMUNICATION CUT OFF.

The Eastern Extension Cablo Company's office and one of the staff residences at Waka puak» were burned to the ground at three o'olock this morning, The fije broke out iD the office, i and when discovered had a good hold. It was at once evident that it was im' ppssibe to save the office and attention was turned to the bungalow, one of the buildingf used by ibe oable staff Bβ quartere. This buiding, which was situated nine or ten feet from the offices, soon oaught alight, and was also totally destroyed; The loss is very heavy, as only part of one - of the instruments (there were three) was saved. Another big item was the destruction of some hundreds of coils of wire. The cause of the outbreak is a complete mystery.
