OBITUARY.

James John Courtney, late Pitz gerald Avenue, Chi.istcuurcb, one of Canterbury's oldest pioneers, passed away at the residence of his daughter, Mrs P. McManus, Little River. Mr Courtney with his wife,, went to Little River six years ago to spend a few weeks holiday, where Mrs Courtney, wboßß health was very indifferent, filled, and she pasted away on the May, 18ch 1908 Mr Counm-y then decided to remain in Little River, and be lived with his daughter, until bis death on tbe 12th of May last, Mass for the repose of his soul was celebrated in Little River Cotbolic Church by tbe Rev. Father Booetto, at 10 a uj. on Thursday, and the body was afterwards taken to Christchurch in tbe mid day train and enterred in the Barbadoes cemetery. The Rev, Father Hoare, of St Mary's, Christ church North, read the burial service iat the grave.
