The usual monthly meeting of the Council was held on Monday last, ■Web 805b at P/irau. Present—Crs. () Brsdlpy, A. I-". Ftf-noinp, H Field, h M. Wilson, Q. C. Mansorj, J. Hunter, J. E. Davenpost, and R. Allen.
Tbe minutes of tbe previous meeting.were read and confirmed. Outward correspondence was read and approved.
A letter was received from the Hon. J. Allen, Minister of Defence, embodying a number of questions, and asking tbe Council to forward any suggestions in the way of employing those who objected to military drill.
The Council was of tbe opinion that as the Defence Act hud become law, all eligible persons should be compelled to conform thereto.
Tbe financial statement ebowed n credit balance of £685 17s sd.
Riding statement showed as follows:—Port Levy Riding : Total paid up to March 30tb, £435 2s 9d.; outstanding, £81 193 2d ; expenditure last month, £55 Is. Pott Victoria Riding : Total paid up to March 30th, £861 ; outstanding, £44 13s 4d ; expenditure last month, £40. The clerk wa3 instructed to charge 10 per cent on all rates not paid bofore the 31st, as publicly notified. Cr Allen gave notice that a special meeting be bald on May 4tb, to amend motor by-law.
Cr .Manson gave notice to move at next meeting—<*Tbat the beach roed from wharf to Cbarteris Bay be formed to the foot of Andereop's hill.'"' -' s
Resolved to write to the Lyttelton Borough Council re the road facing tbe Diamond Harbour property. Resolved to interview tbo Lyttelton Harbour Board its at next meeting, re double freight now being charged on ibe outlying jetties.

Mr Q- 0. Manson was appointed rodd foreman and ranger from Manson's cutting to Rapaki Tenders for metal were accepted ns fellow? : 250 yds at Purau at 4s Gd per yard, J. Hloor; 100 yds at Rocky Point at 4", R. H. Ha-rris ; 100 yds at Manson hill at ss, R. H. Harris.
