CARRIAGE OP MAILS

Since tho motor oars took over tbe carrying of tbe mail twelve months ago, they have caught the train on every occasion till Friday morniog, when a mishap occurred between Duvauchelleand the Hill Top Hotel — the petrol pipe bursting. However, the train was kept in waiting till 12.57 (rather over an hour behind time). Tbe passengers took the situation as well as could be expected, and their late arrival in Cbristcburch wag not any inconvenience, although it was 8.15 pm. when it arrived. Such oc casions as tbese are rare, and Mr Pilkington should be complimented on the manner, in which he has run the mail durirjgjthe past twelve months
