AKAROA POST OFFICE.

RE-BUILDING STARTED

A start was made on Tuesday with tbe pulling down of the old Akaroa post office. The age of the building renders its demolition very easy, and a good deal of the old woodwork has gone already. Tbi3 building was the original Courthouse in the days before the erection of the present Courthouse, when the Clerk of the Court was also Postmaster.

The building was erected by the late Mr Adams, who afterwards owned the Criterion Hotel, and it is certainly time it had decent burial. T*he sitting room of the residential portion is being fitted up to serve as a public room, and" the postmaster's office will be used as a mail-room. The building will be well off tbe street, and there seems no reason why the beautiful ribbonwood tree in front of the office should be intertered with. The fruit trees will have to go, as the new build ing will be towards the corner.
