Rome, December 28.
Dorothea McVane, daughter of Pro fessor McVane, of Harvard, who is dinging in grand opera at Taranto, is suspected of espionage because she accidenfcly snapshotted masked bat fceries, Despite the American Am bassador's assurance that Mise McVane is not a spy, the police con tinue surveillance, and threaten to arrest her if she leaves Italy. Thf lady attributes her persecution to a naval officer falling in love with her, and when she refused him he denounced her to the authorities.
