SPECIAL MEETING.

A special meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council was held on Friday evening at 8 p.m. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and Crg. Cantrell Daly, Fyfe, Leete, Lewitt, Munro, Newton, Vangioni and Walker. The Mayor stated that the meeting bad been called for the purpose of ap tainting an electrical engineer, an-, ailed on the chairman of tbe lighting ommittee (Or Lewiu), to give the re lommendfttion of th« lighting n.nrl woiks committee as to the most suit ible applicant.

Cr Lawitfc stated thai) the lighting and works committees recommended a selection from Messrs Lane, Cheese man and Pickles,

Cr Vangioni moved that Mr \V. J Lane be appointed ag electrical en gineer as from January Ist, 1914.

Seconded by Cr Newton and car ried.

THE NEW ENGINEER

Mr W J. Lane comes from Dune iin, where he baa been in tfae employ >f Mr D. McKerjzip, of Princea street, electrical engineer. Mr Lane, who isat present on a holiday in Christchurch, cornea down on Boxing Day, >md will be shown the ropes by Mr Sbearwood. Mr Lane takes up hip duties at the New Year.
