FRUIT AND PRODUCE
Reillys report that althoug fair supplies of stone fruit have been available during the week, the demand is excellent, and any good quality lines are realising ceiling ceiling values. Moorpark Apricots are wanted, and small lines are now arriving. Some very fine quality plums are coming forward, and selling readily. Cherries are still available, but there is not a great demand for these now and prices are only fair. A few lines of strawberries are still being received, and netting satisfactory values. Supplies of Raspberries are much below requirements. Loganberries have a good enquiry, with fair, supplies arriving. Both Black and Red Currants have firmed in price and smaller supplies have been received. Prices of Tomatoes show a very considerable drop, with fair supplies coming to hand, Nelson grown cannot prove very remunerative to growers.
Limited supplies of Lemons are being received. A fair shipment of Tongan and Fijian Bananas came to hand during the week but unfortunately arrived in overripe condition. Fresh Vegetables have a v satisfactory enquiry, cauliflower in particular are selling readily, although cabbage is sufficient for the present demand. Green Peas showed a drop In values. An excellent demand is being experienced for Scarlet Runner, French and Butter Beans, with good supplies coming to hand. Good •quality table carrots have a demand but most lines forward are small and hard to dispose. of. Spring Onions are almost unsaleable at the present time. Heavy supplies of potatoes are available and values are not high. Poultry—Heavy supplise were forward for Wednesday's sale. Pullets, heavy table birds and Ducks bringing satisfactory values. PER DOZ. Eggs: Pay out values for week ending 26th January: Heavv 1/11$, Standard 1//10, Medium 1/9, Pullets 1/7, Ducks: large 1/71. Lettuce 1/6 to 4/-; Hothouse Cucumbers 17/6 to 18/6, per. doz.; Sweet Peas 4/to 5/-; Poppies 3/- to 3/6, Gladioli 5/- to 6/6, per doz. bunches. PER CASE N.Z.
