NOXIOUS WEEDS

NEW SPRAYS AND DUSTS Many farmers of recent times have bX-en inquiring about the new dusts and sprays being manufactured in England and America for the destruction of weeds. It has been stated that very extensive trials isave been under way in both countries, but definite results have not been, given out, although it is known that some wonderful kills have been brought about. Some of these dusts and sprays are selective, in so far that they will kill one weed and not- another, and in some cases they will kill everything, including pasturage. Some information has come to hand from the United States which indicates, that • certain spraye are now being- marketed there under a variety of trade names,; but there is said to be a. lack of uniformity a sto strength. Investigations are being carried out at various expermental stations, but so far information, from these institutions has been very meagre. A great deal of experimenting has been undertaken by farmers and dealers in the treatment of various weeds, and results are reported as being favourable. The •least that has come from the experimental stations is a, statement that these sprays are promising, but no definite pronouncement will be made until further work has been carried out. Private Information from Britain is that very extensive trials are being carried out there with dusts and sprays. TVVhile i is not yet known the range of weeds that a<he being treated sufficient information has come to hand to indicate that some excellent kills have been secured without damage to useful plants. It is not known if this is the case in all instances, but it is stated to have been so in the more succulent type of weeds.
